My Version of Arthur McBride and The Sargent

As promised, here is a clip of me playing Arthur McBride and The Sargent. It was a little more intimidating than I expected. I am used to recording with mics etc., but stare into a camera, while watching myself on the small pull-out screen, was a bit off putting!
I spent a lot more time than intended trying to get this on YouTube. For some reason, when I did a direct capture (press play on the video camera and YouTube grabs the video directly), with a digital cable, no sound was captured. When I used the analog cables, a slight distortion was introduced into the sound. When I tried to capture the video on my PC (so I could upload instead of using direct capture), I got great sound but there were some skips and glitches. In the end, I went with the direct capture, even though it has slight distortion. If there are any video/YouTube gurus out there, I'd love to know how to capture good sound.

Nice one John.

Terrifying thing to be watching yourself playing though (I'd imagine).

Well done John! I say, that takes true balls, you must drag yours around in a little battery operated cart or something. Well done. Superb.

It's nice to come across another blogger who hails from Limerick! and Happy 4th of July :) As I have no sound at work here at the mo (as it went 'kaput' this morn), I can't hear your rendition. I was in San Fran a few years ago myself for the 4th of July and it piddled rain for the day and it was cold and windy (like today here in Limerick!) :) but it was still nice to try catch a glimpse of fireworks through the mist.

I've never recorded anything on utube myself but have helped a few peeps jiggle them around so to speak, but they do articles and tutorials that may help. Off the top o'my head ..http://www.youtube.com/t/studio_article_02

Limerick Gal - Thankin' ya kindly.

Bock - I was surprised at how intimidating it was to look at the camera screen. I kept getting distracted. "Jaysus my hair is a total feck. Is that a zit on my chin?"

FMC - Actually, in order to sing that high, (I am more in the mid Johnny Cash range naturally), I had to have a testicaladectimy.

Trinity - Welcome and thanks for the tips. I'll check them out. Methinks this won't be the first posting.

A testicaladectimy! Jesus, that's dedication, John!
Fair play, you're damn good (with or without.... y'know yourself!) Good to hear a full Irish accent and no trace of the Yank trying to squeeze in too!
P.S. Is that a stutue of the immaculate conception on the shelf behind you? (I'm a woman! My eyes wander around the room, sorry!)

Thanks Mairead. Actually my accent is pretty neutral, always has been. my theory is growing up in the suburbs, we didn't have much interaction with people in the city or the country hence the neutral accent. My brothers however had much more interaction with the city and have much more pronounced Limerick accents. I think I listened to Brady's version so much while learning the song that I developed a stronger accent!

Immaculate Conception! Close. There are little Elvis, Jimmy Hendrix and Beatle dolls, plus 3 small lava lamps on the shelf! Methinks it was the lava lamps that created the IC effect.
