Quake!

Jaysus, I was upstairs in our house 5 minutes ago and the whole place shook. It was a pronounced shake. I went downstairs and my wife and parents in law, who were being very civilised and drinking afternoon tea, hadn't felt a thing! I guess the earthquake proofing we put in when we bought the house worked.

Maybe it's just a very shaky house. You'd notice that more upstairs.

Trust me. I'm a design professional.

There was a bigger one last night, same fault. I was away up in the mountains snowboarding so i didn't feel it, but the wife said it was mildly scary.

re shaking, you defo feel it much more when you are higher up. There was a strong quake 3 years back down south, (one person was killed), I was on the 7th floor of a new building - this means it is on rollers so you really feel the shock. It was like being on a boat for about 20 seconds, and because all the building alarms went off we had to leave. The people on the first floor said they barely felt it.

I wished for an earthquake the whole time I was in San Francisco, until I got in a lift (elevator?) and suddenly didn't want one anymore.

The quake I mentioned above cured me of all desires to experience a sizeable quake. The epicenter of that quake was hundreds of miles away and it was very disconcerting. I can't imagine a big quake nearby would be like, although I have heard tons of descriptions of first hand experience of the 1987 Loma Prieta quake,
